Anyways I have an interview on Tuesday for a job at Florida Hospital as a research assistant. If I were to get the job and I'm praying I do then I will get to sit in on different surgeries and work as an assistant to Dr. Lamvu, an obstetrician so I'm hoping, hoping, hoping that I get this because it will be a step in the right direction as far as my job.
So as I was perusing the CDC website and reading my book choice, not at the same time I stumbled upon an answer to my question of whether or not HIV is always passed down from mothers to their children and the answer is...no. I'm at the point in the book The Naked Truth where Marvelyn meets a young HIV positive woman of 20 who is on either her 2nd or 3rd child at the moment I dont recall what the exact number is. She says that the mother was taking medications and having prenatal care that allowed her to not pass the gene on to her unborn child. I'll be researching this more on the CDC website and hopefully pretty soon (like tomorrow probably) I'll figure out the putting videos and pictures on my blog.
Until next time.

You should have posted your new found knowledge under Did You Know ... That if a women takes her antiretroviral medications she may not pass the virus onto her child. It isn't a gene. Now my question to you is why? How does taking your medications reduce the chance that an HIV infected women will infect her unborn child? I look forward to seeing your research. Good luck on the interview.
ReplyDeleteIm glad that you touched on this topic because the other day after doing some homework and studying for our class, I wondered the same thing. I knew there was definitely a chance of passing HIV on to an unborn child but I wondered if every child born to an HIV infected mother was infected. Im really interested to see what else you find out because I'm curious about this subject as well.
ReplyDeleteOn another note congrats on getting an interview at the hospital. I too am interested in getting a job at a hospital in any position because I think they could help me out with schooling possibly. Like maybe they would pay for me to go to grad or PA school if I worked for them a few years after I was done. Plus it looks really good on a resume! Good luck!
